The Paitin winery, owned by the Pasquero-Elia family, was established in 1796 when Benedetto Elia purchased the farmhouse, wine cellar and surrounding vineyards from Luigi Pelissero. Benedetto’s son Giuseppe acquired the underground cellar and extended their vineyard holdings to the current 17 hectares. In 1893, the first Barbaresco Sori Paitin was produced and in 1898 the winery began exporting the wine commercially. The next important phase of the winery was in 1965 when Secondo Pasquero-Elia built a new wine cellar at the property and did a thorough replanting of the vineyards by massale selection. Secondo Pasquero-Elia, sadely passed away in 2020 but his sons, Giovanni and Silvano are currently running the winery along with Giovanni’s son Luca.

Sori Paitin Description

“Sor Paitin” is a Barbaresco wine produced by the Pasquero-Elia family since 1796. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety grown on the Serraboella slope, which is the warmest slope in the Southern Neive region of Piedmont, Italy. The name “Sorì” means the first place where the snow melts with the first winter sun rays, and it is an ancient rule to select the best plots for Nebbiolo. The wine has a delicate and fresh taste with a slow-moving bouquet characterized by redcurrant and tart cherry. It gains power on the palate with polished tannins and tight structure.

Winemaker Notes

Serraboella is the most famous cru in the Southern Neive. A long hill exposed to West that gently bends towards South getting steeper. On this very side: the steepest and the warmest, our Barbaresco has a unique expression. Power, volume are laced by a elegant texture.
