Nicodemi 2017 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva ‘Neromoro’

Within the large appellation of Abruzzo, the Colline Teramane is the first subzone to achieve DOCG status due to its unique terrior and proximity to the Adriatic Sea, a scant 10 km away.  Heirloom vines are planted in limestone rich soils mixed with clay.  These hillside vineyards enjoy a large diurnal temperature change allowing for great ripeness to occur during the intense sunny days, while the cool nights maintain fresh acidity.  Upon harvesting these certified organic grapes from 50+ year old vines, they are macerated with the skins for 20 days, fermented in large wooden vats, then aged for 18 months in used barriques.  As is tradition for a Riserva from this region, the wine is bottle aged for many more years prior to being offered for sale.
