Husband and wife winemaker team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, set out in 2007 with a shared vision to create authentic Swartland wines that reflect the distinct terroir of the region while embracing reasoned, sustainable farming practices and modern minimalist winemaking. Their commitment to quality and their deep respect for the environment and their employees have earned them acclaim both nationally and internationally, and has led to Mullineux being awarded South African Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times by the highly respected Platter’s Guide.
Tasting Notes - This is a true masterpiece from Andrea Mullineux. Her NV Olerasay 4º is a blend of the straw wine (made with high-acidity Chenin Blanc from granite soils) from the 2008 to the 2023 vintages. Basically, she holds back a few barrels each year to create a solera-styled blend. The wine continues to contract and concentrate through evaporation, becoming ever more stable and enriched along the way.
Bouquet - Very concentrated, displaying scents of lanolin, marmalade, melted honey in tea, candied ginger slices and pastry cream studded with diced orange peel.
Palate is beautifully balanced with a viscous texture and flavors of tangy marmalade mixed with apricot, mango, a touch of ginger and quince.
100% Chenin Blanc
Sourced from the parcels of old vine Chenin Blanc that give the best acidity at harvest
The vines are planted in the stony Schist based soils of the Kasteelberg and the decomposed Granite based soils of the Paardeberg
Grapes are hand harvested at normal ripeness and left to dry in the shade of some trees for a few weeks
Naturally fermented for around 9 months and finishes on its own, with no fortification or filtration
Each vintage, a barrel or two of Straw Wine are held back and blended into a Solera system
