Quinta do Covão has belonged to the Gomes Ferreira family since the seventies. Located in Sandomil, Seia, near the Serra da Estrela mountain, the highest point in Portugal, Quinta do Covão has an ideal climate for growing grapes with high acidity and making wines that can be cellared. Lúcia Ferreira, sister to our Douro winemaker, Filipe Ferreira, started producing wine about ten years ago.
This elegant cuvée is made using only ambient yeast and is hand-harvested. NIne days of macertaion and 15 days of lees contact is followed by racking and ageing in stainless teel. 25% Encruzado, 32% Malvasia Fina, 19% Bicoal, 14% Gouveio. Encruzado provides good acid structure & minerality. Malvasia Fina has smokey and waxy charm which is evident in the nose. Bical is quite fruity, and Gouveio gives nuances of anise and white flowers.
