Maison Jaffelin -
Considered the best of the 'small' Burgundy negociants, the wines of Maison Jaffelin have taken a serious jump in quality in the past few years. This is not by chance. The owners of the house hired a young woman named Marinette Garnier who has serious 'street cred'. She previously worked at such top flight Burgundy domaines as Domaine Dujac and Meo-Camuzet.
Investment in modernizing the winery, new equipment & a thorough 'deep cleaning' have poised this domaine to produce even better wines.
Jaffelin 'Bourgogne Les Chapitres de Jaffelin' Pinot Noir 2020 is Jaffelin's Bourgogne Rouge. Grapes are sourced from all over Burgundy, including de-classified Barrels from the house's Village and 1er Cru bottlings. No where else does the Pinot Noir grape give such expressive flavors from the LImestone soils of Burgundy. Visually, the wine has ruby hues with glints of bright red. On the noes, there is aromas of red fruits, particularly ripe strawberry & raspberry. Powerful, yet supple on the palate with smooth tannins. a judicious amount oak rounds out the finish. A wine that can be enjoyed on its own, or with food - especially soft and semi-soft French cheeses.
