Dianella Yesterday and Today
The Medicean villa Dianella dates back to the end of the 16th century, and was used by the Medici as a hunting lodge. Its name, Dianella, comes from the name Diana, the goddess of the hunt.
The village of Dianella is made up of a few houses, the 13th century church of “S. Michaelis de Aliana” and the Villa, built in the late 1500s. In 1700 the village became the property of the Marchesi Federighi family and later of the Fucini. Here the poet Renato Fucini composed most of his works. He mentions it several times in his sonnets and wrote the short story “A Dianella” within the collection “Foglie al Vento”.
At the beginning of the 1900s Dianella was bought by the Billeri family passing to the Conti Passerin d’Entrèves e Courmayeur. Francesco e Veronica Passerin d’Entrèves personally oversaw the long and painstaking restoration of the whole village, creating an elegant and stately environment, where guests can experience the warm hospitality which has always characterised the villa.
