Aldo Conterno

Aldo Conterno, a legend in his own lifetime, managed to forge a reputation as one of the most
celebrated growers in Piedmont after parting ways with his family’s estate to set up his own winery
in 1969. A maverick in his use of international techniques, he maintained a strict dedication to
traditional methods when it came to crafting his Baroli from the heart of the micro-climate of
Bussia, the gem of Monforte d’Alba. After Aldo’s death in 2012, the estate has soared to new
heights under the direction of his sons, Franco, Stefano and Giacomo.

Colonnello Description

From the glass emerge compact and intense aromas of leather, tobacco and coffee beans perfectly integrated in a background of ripe fruit (blackberry, cassis and cherry). The most sensual, albeit still in full youth, of the Crus of the Aldo Conterno winery needs a bit of time in the bottle, as well as in the glass before revealing what it completely has to offer .

The vineyard “Colonnello” is about 40-45 years old and, to maintain it, the vines are replanted from time to time. The main variety of Nebbiolo is Michet and its rootstock is 420 A.
