At its core Mirabeau Gin is a classic Dry Gin. Mirabeau has used a 100% grape-based neutral spirit which adds roundness and subtle fruitiness to the palate. Lemons and Coriander add layers of fresh citrus character. Orris and Angelica roots impart floral and earthy tones respectively. Rose Petals, Lavender and Jasmine are used sparingly to bring a variety of floral tones. Finally, Bay, Thyme and Rosemary add a finely balanced herbaceous character to the blend.
Francis and I (Rachel, pictured) discovered this gin while at a tasting, and were honestly very skeptical. Most "Rose" gins are either too sweet or seemingly artificially flavored. This one took us by surprise, it's delicate botanicals and floral backdrop really made us second guess our original predisposition. After getting the spirit into the shop Francis and our bartenders were trying to think of a cocktail that could utilize the Mirabeau gin and they struggled to find a combination that wouldn't overpower the delicate nature of the gin and thus the, "Pink Gin Gimlet" was born. A classic gimlet contains only three ingredients: gin, simple syrup (1:1 ration, sugar and water) and lime juice. When testing out this basic recipe with the pink gin, they discovered that even the small amount of lime juice overpowered the delicate undertones in the gin. So it was decided to take out the lime juice, the gin has enough orange peel and acid in it to hold up in the cocktail alone. The final recipe was: 2oz Mirabeau Rose Gin, 1/2oz simple syrup, garnished with a dehydrated orange slice. Cheers!
