Here I am at the Spotted Cat in New Orleans, with a beer and my sketch book drawing the beautiful lady in front of me swaying to the music, her arm reaching behind for her beer, which she set on the bar beside me…unaware that I’m drawing her. Her chair- not just any factory chair procured at auction but a thing lovingly crafted by someones grandpa, most likely from wood he found by the river after a storm, and thirty years later rescued by someone who painted the details… the pentimento nature of New Orleans where everyone and everything is a testament to the layers of history that came before. My sketch in the painting is an image within an image repeated to infinity.
