Rumor has it there was an elephant who made her rounds each day at the same time. They called her Damo* and held a table for her as they would an honored guest. This tradition was nearly upended when Francis and Mark established the present day gem in 1994, taking her favorite table for themselves while consuming twice as much as little Damo ever dreamed of! Luckily Jenifer quickly resolved the issue by arranging for Damo to have her own private table in the upper-level cocktail lounge, which has since become a legendary watering hole.

* Damo, or Damodaron is the elephant in Abraham Verghese’s novel,

The Covenant of Water. She is a symbol of endurance and continuity.
