ORGANIC FARMING AT LAUREL GLEN VINEYARDS

Laurel Glen has been a certified organic farm since 2014. We believe that farming organically is not only responsible stewardship, but additionally provides a degree of purity and sense of place in the finished wines. Organic farming practices maintain and enhance the quality of the soil, minimize our use of irrigation water, and preserve the surrounding wild spaces.

In 2011, Bettina Sichel, a veteran of the California wine industry, became the steward of Laurel Glen Vineyard after purchasing the iconic estate from founder Patrick Campbell in partnership with a small group of wine lovers comprised of industry veterans (Phil Coturri as Vineyard Manager & Randall Watkins as Winemaker), as well as a few industry newcomers. Bettina is the daughter of Peter M.F. Sichel, the man responsible for making his family’s Blue Nun (for those of you old enough to remember) a household name in America, Bettina is the fifth generation of the Sichel family to work in the wine business.

Randall Watkin's (Winemaker) 2023 Tasting Notes: “Quite earthy, savory roasted herbs, fresh cherries, charred oak and crushed rock.  Good acid, very youthful mouth, excellent long tannin texture.  There's a pretty, foresty scent and an impression of a dark mineral structure dammed up behind a layer of French oak. With some time in a decanter, its savory flavors explode, saturating the senses with smoky, woodsy spice that feels connected to the rocky volcanic soil.
