Etienne Becheras - Saint Joseph Rouge
The vines are worked entirely manually in reasoned driving that respects the environment. Located in the communes of Arras and Vion on the right bank down the Rhône, in the heart of the appellation, they are south, south-east. The soils composed of decomposing schist and granite are shallow, light, permeable and warm.
The age of the vines varies between 8 and 65 years with a single grape variety: SYRAH. The very traditional vinification, ageing for about 16 months in 228-litre oak barrels. Bottled at the estate, unfined and unfiltered wine.
Characteristics: This wine develops its full potential between 3 and 5 years on an intense bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry and violet with a peppery note, then opens with liquorice fragrances for an ageing of up to 10 years. Goes very well with grilled red and white meats or in sauce.
Etienne Becheras - Rhone Valley
My farm of a dozen hectares extends from the banks of the Rhône to the first mountains of the Ardèche. Orchards, mainly planted with apricot trees and truffle oaks, occupy the plain over 4 hectares, the soil of silt and gravel benefits from the alluvium of the river and irrigation water. In order to respect the environment, the orchards are left to grass; Regular mowing and shredding of pruning wood provide a large part of the organic matter necessary for the development of the trees, guaranteeing a small and varied wild fauna and flora. To do this, the plots are separated by hedges where nesting boxes are installed.
The vineyard covers 6 hectares, 5 of which are located in the appellations of Saint Joseph & Crozes-Hermitage. It begins at the first slopes and goes up by long terraces supported by low walls built of dry stone. The maintenance of these walls requires a lot of work throughout the life of the vine and begins even before planting during land clearing and deep digging with a mechanical shovel. Then the majority of the work is done manually such as pruning, disbudding, tying, shearing, and finally the harvest.
