A native of San Jose who grew up in Southern California, Corison arrived in the Napa Valley in the mid-1970's with $200 and the standard wine maker's credential, a masters degree in oenology from the University of California at Davis. -- NY Times 1991
We've been in love with Cathy Corison since we opened our doors in 1992. I remember reading the above-quoted article and seeking her out. We've been rewarded with 25 vintages and 25 years of collaboration. These wines are stunning. Cathy's wines have always showed restraint, even when that was not fashionable.
Time is the utimate test however, and Cathy's wines stand that test of time better than almost any winery in California. We recently had Cathy to the restaurant for a dinner at which we opened a 25-year vertical of her wines back to 1992. Each one showed better than the prior and there were many jaws that had to be picked up off the floor.
Corison is an American First Growth. These stately wines drink remarkably well when young and, as I have tasted every vintage back to the first, NONE have aged-out yet. Remarkable.
