The Balletto family started in the late 1970's as commercial Vegetable farmers growing 70 different vegetables on over 700 acres. Sensing the growing difficulty with the supply of water in California, they realized that they had to pivot. A good friend and neighboring farmer Warren Dutton of Dutton Ranch suggested the Balletto's start growing wine grapes, which are less water dependent compared to other crops they were farming at the time. Seeing a bright future for wine grape growing in Russian River Valley, John and Terri transitioned a small portion of their land to vineyards - now known as Burnside Road Vineyards
After seeing the high-quality Russian River Valley wines crafted from their fruit by other wine producers, John and Terri decided to pursue winemaking under the "Balletto Vineyards" name. They saved one-tenth of the fruit for themselves-selecting the top 10 percent of quality-and in 2001 created the first vintage of Balletto Vineyards estate wines from Russian River Valley.
Exhibits everything you would expect from a serious pinot noir.
The wine opens with seductive dark fruit and spice and continues through a velvety mid-palate that maintains its balance with light tannins and acidity at the finish.
The warm growing season of 2021 produced a wine with weight and presence, and the overall impact is complex, impressive and delicious. A Pinot that combines full and captivating aromatics with a structured texture that defines the Balletto style of Pinot Noir.
THE WINE: The Russian River Valley Pinot Noir was grown on seven different estate Pinot vineyards. The sites range from quiet rolling hills to steep and cold hillside plantings. This diverse combination adds distinct elements from each site and creates a complex wine with structure and grace.
